MHS JV girls post easy win over Tigers

The Mathews High School junior varsity girls’ basketball season came to an end last week with an easy victory over King and Queen and a loss to Rappahannock.

Mathews nearly shut out the visiting King and Queen Tigers last Tuesday, Feb. 7, 28-3. The Lady Devils came out the gates strong with 19 points in the first half and finished with nine more in the second. Jade Davis led with six points, followed by Connie Johnson and Sierra Davis with five points each, Kelsey Ryan and Brooke Barefoot with four points apiece, and Alejandra McCurry and Abigail Hudgins, each with two.

The following night, the MHS JV girls lost on the road to Rappahannock, 26-15, to close out the 2016-2017 season. McCurry led Mathews in scoring with six points, followed by Davis with four, Chesapeake West with three, and Hudgins with two points. The Lady Devils ended the season with a perfect 8-0 in district play. ...
