MHS JV boys beat K&Q for second win of season

The Mathews High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team picked up its second win of the year during the past week, defeating King and Queen on Friday, 44-35. The JV Devils also dropped a pair of games in recent action to Essex (57-37) and Charles City (57-53). All three games were on the road.

The first matchup was against Essex last Wednesday. The Devils came out hot in the first quarter, making most of their shots. They fell off near the end of the opening quarter though, leading by only two points at the buzzer. Mathews went on a drought in the second quarter, scoring only four points, to trail 27-18 at the half.

The Devils couldn’t pick up the scoring in the third quarter and scored only four points again. They made more shots in the fourth quarter, scoring 15, but were too far behind to mount a comeback.

Tylon Forrest was high scorer for the Devils with 11 points. Will Hutcheson and Tyrese Brooks both had nine. On Friday, they went to King and Queen. Both teams...
