MHS jayvee softball adds district win

The Mathews High School junior varsity softball team defeated the Middlesex Chargers, 11-1, Friday to improve its overall season record to 7-3.

Madison South pitched the entire five innings for the Lady Devils, allowing one run while walking two batters and striking out seven. The jayvee Devils started slowly, having no hits the first time through their lineup, but pulled ahead, 5-1, after three innings. The girls extended their lead with runs in the fourth and fifth innings while preventing the Chargers from crossing the plate again, enabling the Devils to end the game by mercy rule after five innings.

 

Offensive standouts for the Devils included Julia White (1-for-1, single), Keely Crittenden (2-for-3, single, triple, three RBIs), South (2-for-3, two singles, three RBIs), and Josey Bauby (1-for-2, single, RBI). Lexie Miles and Amber Jackson also contributed hits in the victory.
