MHS jayvee soccer still looking for first win

"We’re definitely a young team, with a total of nine eighth graders. Our record of 0-3-2 displays our age, but they’re just getting better and better each time they play," Mathews High School jayvee soccer coach John Zeller said, summing up his team’s season so far.

This year’s roster includes Megan Zeller, Amanda Smith, Shannon Enders, Natalie McElroy, Cameron McCuistion, Reggie Johnson, Ricky Rutter, Drew Hudgins, Tim White, Ronald Rise, Hunter Wright, Zach Foss, Josh Foster, Chandler Brown, Dillon Roane and Adam Wade. The coaching staff is a family affair, with Becky Zeller as assistant coach, with Jessie Zeller and Alyssa Smith serving as team managers.

The team opened its season on March 13, losing to Warhill, 5-0. Hudgins had four shots on goal and Rutter contributed three out of a team total of 10. Starting goalie Megan Zeller had three first-half saves. In the second half, Foster had two keeper saves followed by Foss with one.
