The Mathews High School indoor track and field team traveled to the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton to compete in the Suffolk Stars Invitational on Jan. 31-Feb 1.

Seventy-eight teams took part and the Mathews competitors performed well against athletes from much larger schools.

Melody Smith, Sarah Taylor, Caroline Bray and Zoe Goodwin were on the girls 4x800 meter relay team finishing with a time of 12:51. Sarah Taylor jumped 4’8” in the high jump and 11’ 10½” in the long jump. Savannah Hartlove jumped 11’ 1¾” in the long jump. Zoe Goodwin jumped 27’ 5” in the triple jump.

For the boys, Antonio Smith ran the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.22 seconds. Brian Robinson finished the 1,000-meter run in 3:14. Cameron McDonald jumped 15’ 8½” in long jump. Tabias Fisher threw 33’ 9’in shot put.
