The Mathews High School indoor track team completed its first meet of the season at the Gloucester Pre-Holiday Invitational, which was held on Friday and Saturday at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.

Blake Atkins competed in the 1,000 meter run, finishing with a time of 3:17 and placing first in his heat. John McDonald competed in the 55 meter dash, finishing in 8.21 seconds. Kris True competed in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 9.72 seconds and he also jumped 32 feet 5½ inches in triple jump.

Michael Pennington threw 37 feet 6½ inches in shot put; Tobias Fisher threw 29 feet 8½ inches, and Garret Applegate threw 22 feet 9 inches.

Caroline Bray competed in the 1,600 meter run in 7:51. Sarah Fitzgerald competed in the 55 meter dash in 9.09 seconds as well as the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 13.21 seconds. Victoria Palaimo competed in the 55 meter hurdles in 13.04 seconds and she also jumped 4 feet 4 inches in high jump.
