MHS indoor track athletes qualify for state meet

The Mathews High School indoor track team competed over the weekend in the Suffolk Invitational which was held in Hampton at the Boo Williams Sportsplex. More than 30 teams participated.

Brian Robinson competed in the 1,000-meter run, posting a time of 3:11.60, followed by teammate Blake Atkins, who had a time of 3:17.66. Tobias Fisher threw 31’8” in shot put. John McDonald competed in the 55-meter dash with a time of 8.21 seconds.

Zoe Goodwin competed in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:57.90. Goodwin also jumped 29’2” in long jump, which qualified her to compete in the regional meet. Victoria Palaimo jumped 4’8” in high jump which qualifies her for the state championship meet.

Calvin Kramer, Dylan White, Brian Robinson and Cameron Stearns competed in the boys’ 4x800 meter relay with a time of 9:13.58 which qualified them to compete in the state championship meet, as well.
