The Mathews High School golf team entered the final stretch of the regular season with a demanding schedule, playing three matches in five school days against strong competition while continuing to show progress on the course. The Devils turned in two of its lowest team scores of the year while facing strong district and regional competition.Last Wednesday, Sept. 9, the Blue Devils traveled to Queenfield Golf Club in Manquin to face the King William Cavaliers. Mathews turned in a team score of 183, its second-lowest total of the season, but the Class 2A opponent proved too strong, earning a 168-183 win. Sophomore Brandon Hubbard continued his impressive season for Mathews, shooting an even-par 36 over nine holes. Hubbard was the medalist for the second straight match, finishing with the lowest score in the field.
