MHS golfers improving

The Mathews High School golf team competed in only one match during the past week, taking on Rappahannock and Northumberland last Thursday at the Quinton Oaks Golf Course in Callao.

Mathews finished with a score of 207, which was 21 strokes better than the total from the team’s last match. However, it was still not enough to get a win, as Rappahannock won the match with a score of 156 to preserve its undefeated season. Northumberland came in second with 169 strokes.

The low score of the match was scored by Reed Thorne of Rappahannock, who shot a 37. Mathews played well, with all team members shooting lower scores than they had at the previous match. The low scorer for the Blue Devils was Chase Lewis, who shot a 48.

The Conference 42 tournament was scheduled for Monday, but due to inclement weather, was postponed and rescheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 21. The tournament was set to start at 11 a.m. at the Piankatank River Golf Club in Hartfield. ...
