MHS golfers compete in two matches

In golf action during the past week, the Mathews High School team competed in two separate matches. The first was held on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the Hobbs Hole Golf Course, where the Blue Devils faced off with King William and Essex.

The Trojans won the match handily, with a team score of 164. The low scorer for Essex was Hunter Shackelford with 38 strokes. The Cavaliers finished in second on the day, with a team total of 181. They were led by Taylor Hubbard who shot a 35, which was the lowest score of the match.

The Blue Devils came in third, shooting a team score of 207. The team was led by Matt Jenkins and Chase Lewis, who each finished with 49 strokes. Cole Huff and Colton Barrack rounded out with scores of 53 and 56, respectively.

Team members looked to bounce back and improve on their score the next day, as they traveled to Quinton Oaks Golf Course. The squad went up against Rappahannock and Northumberland. While still finishing in third, the team did manage to improve its score...
