The Mathews High School golf team competed in its first 18-hole match of the season last week, travelling to the Traditions Golf Club at Brickshire at Providence Forge last Thursday.
Competing against a much larger New Kent team, the Blue Devil golfers performed well, and maintained fair shooting through both the front and back nine.
Matt Jenkins led the team on the front nine, with the low score of 42. Zach Dehoux was the team leader for the back nine, with the low score of 44. The top four varsity golfers all managed to finish with a total score of 100 or under.
Dehoux and Jenkins led the team, both shooting a score of 91. Cole Huff followed with 99, and Chase Lewis rounded out the team score with 100. Hayden Downs finished the match with a respectable score of 106.
New Kent entered two teams, which was a division of their total varsity squad. New Kent A finished with a total score of 344, and New Kent B finished with a total score of 345. Mathews completed the match with a final tea...
