The Mathews High School golf team hosted Lancaster High School on Tuesday at the Blue Devils’ home course in Hartfield. Sophomore Brandon Hubbard continued his strong start to the season, leading Mathews with a one-under-par 35 over nine holes. Hubbard’s round was the lowest score of the match, but the Blue Devils came up short as Lancaster claimed a 180-188 victory. Rounding out Mathews’ top four scorers were sophomore Morgan Sterne, junior Michael Wiatt and senior Chase Ambrose. Freshman Jackson Dehoux also showed significant improvement, posting his best score of the young season. The Blue Devils quickly returned to action, traveling to Queenfield Golf Club in Manquin, the home course of King William High School on Wednesday.
