MHS girls win regional cross country title

The Mathews High School girls’ cross country team took the Region 1A East title, and the MHS boys placed second in the competition which was held last Tuesday at Panorama Farms in Earlysville.

The girls raced first, with a total of 12 teams and 92 runners competing. The top three teams finished very close together, with only 17 points separating them.

The first-place Blue Devils finished with a total score of 67 points, followed by Northumberland with 73 points, and Stonewall Jackson with 84 points.

The first-place finisher for Mathews was Skylar Lewis (21:41), who crossed the line seventh overall, followed by Rileigh Betz (22:02) and Reilly Price (22:15), who were 11th and 13th, respectively. The rest of the Blue Devils’ top seven were Avery Betz (22:26), Jaysen Hall (22:55), Lizzie Stokes (23:27) and Ellie Gale (23:51).
