MHS girls win, boys place second against TD foes

In a meeting of the old Tidewater District on Sept. 27 at the West Point Country Club, the Mathews High School girls’ cross country team finished first out of a four-team field, while the MHS boys were narrowly edged by the host Pointers.

Teams competing at the meet included Mathews, Middlesex, King William and West Point. The girls’ race was first, and Mathews took first place.

The first finisher for Mathews was Ellie Gale (23:02), who placed second overall. She was followed closely by Rileigh Betz (23:05), Skylar Lewis (23:10), Reilly Price (23:17), Avery Betz (23:36), Lizzie Stokes (23:43) and Alyssa Curko (25:09), who made up the rest of the top seven.

The rest of the girls team consisted of Abigail Hudgins (24:27), who would have been seventh on the team if she was not in eighth grade, Tiffany Condron (26:20) and Kamryn Blake (26:50).
