MHS girls stay perfect in conference play; beat GHS

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team earned four victories over the past couple weeks. With three of those wins against Conference 42 teams, the Devils remain undefeated in conference play. The Lady Devils also bested Gloucester in a five-set match on Monday.

On Sept. 22, the Lady Devils defeated the Middlesex Chargers in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-12 and 25-20. Standouts for Mathews included Anne Stewart with six kills and two digs; Josey Bauby with 23 digs, a kill and two aces; Madison South with eight digs, two kills and 13 assists; Caroline Crittenden with seven digs, two kills and three aces; Keely Crittenden with six digs, three kills and an ace, and Hallie Duncan with three kills, a dig, an ace and a solo block. Ashley Shackelford added three kills while Madisyn Jackson added two and Tori Hicks added one. Emily Sorey had six digs and served one ace while Sarah Brown earned five assists.
