MHS girls split pair during the week

The Mathews High School varsity softball team split a pair of games in recent action, falling to King William last Thursday, 14-0, and defeating the visiting King and Queen Tigers on Tuesday, 20-6.
Mathews was held to only one hit, a Kylee Swanson single, in the loss to King William. “We hit the ball well but right at somebody on every connected swing,” said head coach J.J. Ashberry.
It was a different story on Tuesday as the Lady Devils dominated the Tigers in a five-inning game. Senior pitcher Lindsay Coons picked up the win.
The MHS girls were scheduled to travel to Gloucester on Wednesday and will play at Northampton on Friday. The varsity girls’ next home game is set for next Thursday, May 15, against Middlesex.
