The Mathews High School varsity girls’ volleyball team went head-to-head Tuesday night with Northumberland, besting the Indians three games to one in front of a home crowd.
The Devils came out explosive, winning the first set, 25-14. The Indians came back to tie it up with a 25-21 win. Mathews then rallied to take the next two 25-19 and 25-15.
The Indians are a very good defensive team and quickly picked up all the power the Devils were hitting at them. When the Devils found some holes, is when things started to get intense.
Mathews kill leaders were Casey Parrish with 13, followed by Maddie McCann with 12, Mackenzie Moughon with seven, Teeny Robbins with three, and Kacie Austin with two. Robbins led the team in digs with 12, followed by Parrish with nine, Rachel Close, Moughon and Austin with eight apiece, and McCann with six.
