MHS girls place second at Octoberfest Invitational

The Mathews High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams won the meet at Washington and Lee High School played Sept. 27, with the MHS harriers also competing in Saturday’s Octoberfest Invitational at Great Meadow.

The varsity girls turned in the best performance from the Mathews runners at Great Meadow, placing second overall.

Last Wednesday’s meet at Washington and Lee saw the Devils competing against runners from King and Queen, Rappahannock and Northumberland, as well as the host Eagles.

In the girls’ meet, Abbie Hudgins was the first Blue Devil to cross the line, finishing third overall in 24:44. She was followed by a group of three, Jaysen Hall (25:29), Avery Betz (25:37) and Rileigh Betz (25:38). Not far behind were Skylar Lewis (25:46) and Reilly Price (25:47). Connie Johnson (27:13) crossed the line next for Mathews. Not long after were Kayla Stearns (28:13), Zoe Goodwin (28:20) and Tiffany Condron (30:21).
