MHS girls pick up second win of season

The Mathews High School varsity softball team picked up its second win of the season on Saturday in Tappahannock; the Lady Devils went 1-1 in the weekend’s St. Margaret’s Invitational. The girls also dropped a 7-0 game to the visiting King William Cavaliers last Thursday.

The Cavaliers provided all of the scoring in the first two innings of last Thursday’s game on the way to a 7-0 shutout. Justice Parlett pitched the first inning, Madisyn Jackson pitched the second and third innings, and Ellie Armistead came in as a reliever to pitch the last four innings to complete the game.

Parlett allowed eight hits. Jackson allowed two hits. Armistead allowed two hits and struck out four batters. The Devils struggled offensively, picking up only two hits on the day—a double by Armistead and a single from Abbie Hudgins. St. Margaret’s Tournament
