MHS girls on four-game win streak

After dropping its first three games, the Mathews High School varsity basketball team has claimed four straight victories, improving to 4-3 overall.

On Friday, the Devils hosted Charles City. The Conference 42 opponent was no match for Mathews as the Lady Devils easily defeated the Panthers, 58-21.

Hallie Duncan and Harley Haydon led the Devils in scoring for the night, with 14 points each. Ellie Armistead added 11 points, while Madison South added nine, Yolanda Fells six, and Jolie Ewell and Hannah Robins each added two points. 

MHS then traveled to Gloucester on Monday for what proved to be an exciting contest with the Dukes. The first period was a tight one, ending with Mathews leading by only one point, 9-8. Gloucester then surged ahead in the second period outscoring the Lady Devils, 14-6, and took a 22-15 lead into halftime. After regrouping during the half, Mathews came out strong.
