MHS girls fall to St. Margaret’s School, Greenbrier Christian

The Mathews High School varsity softball team dropped a pair of games in last week’s 2018 Wells Fargo Advisors Invitational at the Lancaster Dream Fields, falling to St. Margaret’s School by a 3-0 margin last Thursday and losing 12-2 to Greenbrier Christian on Friday.

The Lady Devils struggled offensively in both games, with only five hits in last Thursday’s shutout loss and just two hits on Friday. The lone bright spot offensively was Ellie Armistead’s two-run homer on Friday that gave Mathews a brief lead against Greenbrier Christian.

In Thursday’s game, Caroline Crittenden went 2-for-3 at the plate, Armistead hit a triple, and Victoria Bing and Ashley Foster each added a triple. Mathews left six runners stranded on base in that game.
