MHS girls fall to Raiders

In the only recent action for Mathews High School volleyball, both the JV and varsity girls faced the Rappahannock Raiders last Thursday in an away game.

JV was first up, warming up soon after arrival at the Richmond County School. While the squad put up a good fight, they lost both sets to the Raiders.

Moving on to the varsity game, the Lady Devils and Raiders played some great rallies, but in the end Rappahannock came out on top, winning all three sets, 25-8, 25-11 and 25-10.

The MHS girls had 32 serving attempts, two of which were aces. Olivia Ashbaugh and Joice Small both had perfect serves. Their serve/receive average was a 1.11, with 66 receptions and 25 errors. Lily Jarosz had the most receptions, 20, and the highest passing average, 1.6. Overall, the girls had 82 attacks with nine kills and committed 15 errors. Small had six kills and 33 total attacks. Twenty-four digs came from the MHS girls, and a pair of blocks from Sarah and Olivia Ashbaugh.
