The Mathews High School girls’ basketball teams came up short this week in contests against King William and Charles City. Both the JV and varsity squads fell at home last Thursday to the Cavaliers. On Tuesday, the MHS girls were scheduled to host the Panthers; however, the varsity game was canceled and the JV girls took part in a tripleheader at Charles City instead. The varsity girls will play tonight, Thursday, Jan. 22, in a triple header between the JV and varsity boys’ teams, as they face the West Point Pointers. The varsity girls’ game is scheduled to tip off at 6. King William In last Thursday’s contest at King William, the JV girls jumped out to an 8-1 lead, heading into the second quarter. Mathews continued to dominate, outscoring the Cavaliers and going into halftime with a 12-4 lead.
