In a busy week for Lady Devils’ basketball, the Mathews High School varsity girls lost to the Rappahannock Raiders on Saturday in overtime; the JV girls beat Colonial Beach and the varsity Devils lost to the Drifters on Monday; and the JV girls fell to Middlesex while their varsity counterparts defeated the Chargers on Tuesday.

The MHS varsity girls hosted the Raiders on Saturday as part of a tripleheader, which included the JV and varsity boys’ teams. Mathews trailed for much of the game, going into halftime behind, 17-11. The Blue Devils kept the game close by roughly eight points until the fourth quarter. The MHS girls decided to bring up the mood of the crowd and make it a good game to watch. The Blue Devils scored 15 points in the fourth quarter, and with Grayson Griffith finding an opening to Angel Shultz to make a layup, the score went to 31-31 to go into overtime.
Both teams played well getting basket after basket. The Raiders made just one more shot and won by one...
