MHS girls face Middlesex in tennis scrimmage

The Mathews High School varsity girls’ tennis team started off its season Monday with a friendly scrimmage at Middlesex High School.

Mathews only had four players present for the match making it tough to pull off a win, starting the match with three losses. Mathews had to forfeit number five and six singles and number three doubles taking the loss by a 5-4 margin.Playing first-seed singles for Mathews is Connie Johnson, who is going into her fourth year with the tennis team. Johnson won her singles match, 8-0, against Maddie Green playing a very aggressive game keeping her opponent on the defense. Second seed Kylie Berry who is in her third year for Mathews, lost to Virginia Reinhardt in her singles match, 6-1. Playing third seed for the Middlesex scrimmage was Taylor Wood who is new to the sport. She took a loss of 6-3 to Maddie Hard.

Brooklyne Fulford, also a new member to the sport, started her career with a powerful win in her singles match beating Mahalya Senster, 6-2. Math...
