MHS girls drop two games

The Mathews High School varsity girls dropped a pair of games this past week.

On Friday, the Lady Devils traveled to Warsaw to face Rappahannock, with the homestanding Raiders prevailing, 51-40. The Mathews girls fought hard in a losing effort.

Reese Brock had the hot hand for Mathews, finishing the night with 18 points, followed by Sarah Ashbaugh (10), Avery Thomas (seven), Layla Duff and Zoe Camp (two points each) and Olivia Ashbaugh (one point).

The following day, the girls traveled to Nansemond River High School where they faced Lakeland High School. The ladies fell short with a final score of 71-26. Olivia Ashbaugh and Duff were the leading scorers of this match, with five points each; Camp and Sarah Ashbaugh contributed four points apiece, while Brock, Laura Rowe and Thomas ended the game with two points. The Lady Devils now hold a record of 1-3.

The MHS girls travel to Colonial Beach on Friday to face the Drifters.
