MHS girls dominate Lancaster, Rappahannock

The Mathews High School varsity softball team defeated the Lancaster Red Devils Friday and the Rappahannock Raiders on Monday to remain undefeated on the season with a record of 7-0.

MHS easily ousted Lancaster, 18-2, in a five-inning mercy rule game. Madison South and Madisyn Jackson shared the pitching duties for Mathews. South threw the first two innings allowing no walks and one hit while striking out four. Jackson tossed the final three allowing no walks and four hits while striking out three batters.

Lexie Miles led the Devils at the plate going 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, and seven RBIs. South was also 2-for-2 with a single, a double, and two RBIs. Andie Schlosshan went 1-for-1 driving in two runs with a single. Caroline Crittenden was 2-for-4 with two singles and two RBIs. Josey Bauby and Kaylynn Heimerich were each 1-for-2; Heimerich also had two RBIs. Monday evening Mathews hosted Rappahannock expecting a tough contest like the Devils’ 2-1 victory over the Raid...
