The Mathews High School varsity softball team closed out its regular season last Wednesday with a 19-3 win over Charles City. Emily West and Aly Jackson combined to pitch a one-hitter, striking out six.

Contributing hitters included Lainie Wilson (double, single), Jackson (triple), Joice Small (double), and Christiana Wood, Olivia Coons and Emmillie Smith, who each added singles. The team, which only batted three innings, collected 16 walks and hit by pitches.

The Devils finished out the season as the #3 seed in Region 1A, and were scheduled to host Northampton yesterday in the first round of regional play.
