MHS girls beat West Point, fall to Middlesex

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team split a pair of games in recent action, defeating West Point last Thursday in straight sets and suffering a straight-set loss on Tuesday at the hands of the Middlesex Chargers.

In the Lady Devils’ Dig Pink game to raise awareness and donations in the fight against breast cancer, Mathews beat the visiting Pointers in convincing fashion, by scores of 25-12, 25-21 and 25-10. 

There were many aces scored during the game; Lydia Hudgins and Aleya McCurry each with four, Connie Johnson with three, and Grace Bandurco and Emily West each with two, resulting in a total of 15. Bandurco had the most assists with six, followed by McCurry with two and Kristen Frank and Hannah Canady each with one. Offensively, Jordan Hunley had the most kills with three while Joice Small and McCurry each had two, and Frank, Canady and Jada Ashberry each had one. Defensively, Frank had the most digs with 14.
