MHS girls beat W&L Eagles, 49-31; Jayvees top Lancaster

The Mathews High School varsity girls’ basketball team suffered two losses before adding a win during the past week. The Lady Devils are 1-3 on the season.

The team’s lone victory came on the road Tuesday at Washington and Lee. Mathews was in control most of the night, taking the lead early and never relinquishing it. After leading 18-12 at the half, the Devils didn’t let up and would triple that lead by the end of the contest, winning, 49-31.

Hallie Duncan was the lead scorer for the night, putting up 13 points. Ellie Armistead followed with 10, Yolanda Fells and Keely Crittenden each added eight, Harley Haydon added six, and Madison South and Sarah Brown rounded out the score with two points each.
