MHS girls beat Lancaster, fall to Essex

The Mathews High School varsity volleyball team added both a win and a loss to its overall record this past week. The Lady Devils are now 10-3 on the season.

Last Thursday, the Mathews squad traveled to Lancaster where it defeated the Red Devils in a three set match, 25-22, 25-8, and 25-17. Kai McCann led the team in kills with 10 followed by Madison South with three. Morgan Driskell, Keely Crittenden, Anne Stewart and Emily Sorey each had two, while Mariah Robinson and Hallie Duncan each added one.

Leading in digs was Crittenden with eight. McCann followed with seven while South and Belle Massimino each had four and Brittany Mitchem had three. Sophie Bandurco led the way in assists with nine, followed by South with eight and Robinson with three. Aces were served by McCann (four), South (two), Massimino (two), Sorey (two), Duncan (one) and Bandurco (one).
