MHS girls beat Carver

The Mathews High School varsity girls’ basketball team picked up a win Tuesday night, beating the visiting Lady Wolverines from Carver College and Career Academy, 33-28.

The first half started off strong for the Lady Blue Devils. Carver won the tip but it didn’t take long for the Blue Devils to get the ball back. Mathews scored the first seven points of the game with a 3-pointer from the wing and two easy layups. Mathews went into halftime up by 11 points, 23-12.

Getting back on the court after halftime, the Lady Blue Devils lost some momentum, allowing the Lady Wolverines to make it a closer game, but still held onto the lead by the final buzzer. The top scorer of the game was Laura Rowe with 12 points.

JV Devils

At MHS on Friday, the JV girls opened a three-game contest against Middlesex (followed by the JV and varsity boys’ teams), with the JV girls falling, 24-19.
