MHS girls advance to regional volleyball semifinals

The Mathews High School volleyball team moved a step closer to earning a return trip to the VCU Siegel Center following Tuesday night’s Region A quarterfinal win over Washington and Lee, 3-0.

The Lady Devils, runners-up in last year’s Group 1A state tournament, will face Rappahannock at home tonight at 6 o’clock. The winner will be assured of a state tournament berth and will advance to next Tuesday's regional championship game.

Mathews won Tuesday night’s game over W&L, 25-14, 25-17 and 25-22.

Leading the team in aces were Tori Hicks and Victoria Bing with three apiece, followed by Sarah Brown and Belle Massimino with two each.
