The Mathews High School Forensics team had a strong showing at Saturday’s VHSL state tournament at Clover Hill High School in Midlothian, led by Sandra Baer, who won first place in the Prose category. Team captain Henry Barnett earned second place in Original Oratory, while Kathleen Winters captured second place in Serious Dramatic Interpretation. Grace Lewis and Sara Abbit took second and third places, respectively, in Poetry. Aiden Sowers competed in Impromptu and Haley Hoell in Serious Dramatic Interpretation. Representing Mathews at the event were, from left, Hoell, Sowers, Baer, Winters, Abbitt, Lewis and Barnett.
