MHS evacuated Tuesday morning

 

Mathews High School has been evacuated on Tuesday morning following a possible threat, according to Mathews County Superintendent of Schools Nancy Welch.

Welch said that the administration was notified by a parent this morning; she was not certain of the nature of the threat (whether a bomb, gun or something else). Welch said she learned about the threat at 9 a.m.; by 9:05 a.m., the students were being taken to Thomas Hunter Middle School.

The move was being made “out of an abundance of caution,” Welch said. Welch has been in contact with Sheriff Mark Barrick and said that State Police ordnance dogs are on the way.
