Mathews High School girls’ tennis has three tournaments that the girls play in: the Region 1A Team Tournament, the Region 1A Singles Tournament and the Region 1A Doubles Tournament. It can be very tough on the number-one players for they participate in all three tournaments. The Mathews High School girls’ tennis team lost in the Region 1A Team Tennis Tournament semifinals last Wednesday after a hard fight against Lancaster. While the Mathews girls played their hearts out, the match ended in a 5-4 loss to Lancaster. In singles, playing number one, Lyla Duff lost her match against Mckenzie Pittman, 6-1, 6-2. Ella Ward, number two, played a hard match against Finley Major but unfortunately lost the contest, 6-2, 6-3. Playing number three, Rayann Helbig had an amazing win against Josie Spencer, 6-0, 6-1.
