MHS defeats Tigers in volleyball

The Mathews High School varsity and JV volleyball teams earned straight-set victories on Tuesday night against the host King and Queen Tigers.

In the varsity match, the MHS girls rolled over the Tigers by scores of 25-5, 25-2 and 25-9. Tori Hicks had three aces and two kills in the win. Hannah Robins finished the night with three aces, four digs and seven assists. Anne Stewart contributed three aces and three solo blocks. Hannah Smith dominated at the net with seven kills. Sarah Brown had seven aces, while Madisyn Jackson contributed three. Ashley Shackelford had two kills. Maddie Maggioncalda and Kristen Frank each had four digs.

The junior varsity girls defeated the JV Tigers, 25-17 and 25-14. Skyller Worley finished the game with eight aces and four assists. Grace Bandurco had two aces and one assist. Emily West contributed one ace and two kills. Lydia Hudgins had a standout night with eight aces, two kills and a dig. Jada Ashberry scored one ace.
