MHS cross country teams win at Beaverdam

The Mathews High School girls’ and boys’ cross country teams gave impressive performances last Wednesday at the Beaverdam Park course in Gloucester against West Point, Northampton and Rappahannock.

The girls had a shutout race with a perfect score of 15, beating West Point (48 points). Rappahannock and Northampton forfeited. The boys’ team won with a score of 16 points, followed by West Point (57), Northampton (83), and Rappahannock (99).

Ellie Armistead won the girls’ race with a time of 20:55. As she is an eighth grader, she cannot contribute to the varsity team score. Armistead now holds the Beaverdam JV course record, beating the previous time by more than a minute. The next two across the finish line were Rileigh Betz (22:13) and Skylar Lewis (22:18).
