MHS boys split pair of district games

The Mathews High School boys’ basketball team started off its week with a rivalry matchup Monday against Middlesex, falling to the Chargers on the road, 81-60.

Junior Tae Legette led the Blue Devils with 20 points, followed by freshman Tremaine Greene with 16 points, senior Daveon Johnson with seven points, freshman Jordyn Cosby with four points, freshman Ryan Bacelar with three points, Senior Ja’Marri Henderson with two points, and freshman Cam Matthews with two points.

Mathews rebounded from Monday’s loss with a 74-64 win Tuesday against the visiting King and Queen Tigers. Legette and Greene were once again the top scorers, with 23 and 20 points, respectively. Henderson and Bacelar also ended the night in double digits with 12 and 10 points. Cosby (six points) and Johnson (three points) rounded out the scoring.

The MHS boys were scheduled to face the Lancaster Red Devils last night. On Friday, the MHS boys will play host to Charles City, starting at 7.
