MHS boys second, girls third in track

The Mathews High School boys’ track and field team placed second, and the MHS girls took third place in last Wednesday’s Conference 42 Championship at Charles City High School.

The boys ended the day with 121 points, and the girls finished the contest with 96.

Notable performers for the girls were: The girls’ 4x800m relay team (Lizzie Stokes, Lauren Bland, Skylar Lewis and Tiffany Condron), which won, breaking the school record for the second consecutive meet with a time of 11:32; Rileigh Betz, who scored wins in the 100m and 300m hurdles with times of 18.18 and 52.41, respectively, along with a third-place finish in the 1,600m run with time of 6:10; Lauren Bland, who won the 800m run with a time of 2:43; Alyssa Curko, who placed third in the 400m dash with a time of 1:08, and Ellie Gale, who placed fifth and sixth in the 100m and 300m hurdles with times of 19.14 and 1:00, respectively.
