MHS boys post wins over Tigers, Panthers

After an absence of almost three weeks, the Mathews High School boys’ basketball teams finally got back on the court last week when they traveled to King and Queen County on Friday. Both the varsity and JV Devils picked up wins, with the varsity team improving its Conference 42 record to 4-0.

The varsity boys kept their winning streak going on Tuesday night, beating the visiting Charles City Panthers, 71-44.

Against King and Queen, Mathews took an early lead and held on to the final buzzer to win, 71-65.

The team was led in scoring and rebounds by Jalen Matthews, who had 16 points and pulled down six rebounds. Also contributing to the team score were Elijah Willis and Caleb Thomas both with 12, Jarius Monroe with nine, Christian Williams and Will Hutcheson both with seven, Tylon Forrest with five, and Landon Green with three.
