MHS boys post wins over Panthers, Raiders

The Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team picked up wins over Charles City and Rappahannock in recent action, falling at home on Tuesday to district rival West Point.

On Tuesday, Jan. 18, the MHS boys crushed Charles City on the road, 81-33. Four Mathews players finished that night in double figures, led by junior Tae Legette’s 22 points. Senior Ja’marri Henderson (16 points), freshman Tremane Greene (14 points) and freshman Jordyn Cosby (13 points) were also among the top scorers.

Rounding out the scoring were freshman Ryan Bacelar (five points), senior Daveon Johnson and Colin Frazier (four points each) and freshman Cam Matthews (one point).

The MHS boys started out this week hot with a 73-71 victory over the homestanding Rappahannock Raiders. Legette led the charge with 32 points, followed by Greene with 12 points, Bacelar with 10, Henderson with nine points, Cosby with six, sophomore Andrew Greve with two points, and Frazier and Johnson each with one point.
