MHS boys post wins over Middlesex, Rappahannock

The Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team picked up a pair of victories this past week, beating the visiting Middlesex Chargers on Friday, 86-74, and pulling out a last-second victory over the Rappahannock Raiders on the road Monday night, 47-46.

The wins improved the Blue Devils’ record to 10-9 with three regular season games remaining.

The junior varsity Devils, meanwhile, split the two games; beating Middlesex and falling to Rappahannock.

Mathews completed its regular season sweep of its Tidewater District rivals from Middlesex on Friday. The Devils took a 12-point lead into halftime and, in spite of a rally that saw the Chargers close the gap to four points at the start of the fourth quarter, they held on for the win.
