MHS boys go 2-2 in recent action

The Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team went 2-2 this past week, picking up wins against Charles City and King William, while falling to Lancaster and Northumberland. 

The Blue Devils faced the visiting Red Devils from Lancaster last Thursday night. Mathews dropped its first matchup with Lancaster the week before, and last Thursday’s game was more of the same as the Red Devils won, 60-40.

Mathews never got any offensive rhythm going and Lancaster’s quick press defense proved too much to handle. The Blue Devils stayed close in the first half, heading into halftime down by a few points. After the half, Mathews came out sluggish and never got the spark needed due to foul trouble. Lancaster pulled away, eventually winning, 60-40. Corey Cox, Brian Owens and Elijah Willis led the way.
