MHS boys go 1-2 in recent action

The Mathews High School varsity baseball team played in three close, low-scoring games in recent action—beating Washington & Lee by a 3-2 margin on April 14, falling to King William, 1-0, last Wednesday and coming out on the losing end of a 3-2 contest on Friday at Lancaster.

In the April 14 game against Washington & Lee, the Eagles struck first with a run in the top of the third inning. Mathews retaliated in the bottom of the fourth off an RBI single from Patrick Blake.

The Devils took the lead when Brent Smith stole home on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth. Washington & Lee ended up tying the game in the top of the seventh, sending the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the ninth, Brandon Williams hit a walk-off single to give the MHS boys the win over W&L.
