MHS boys, girls win at home XC meet

The Mathews High School Cross Country teams picked up wins in a meet last Wednesday at Gloucester’s Beaverdam Park.

The MHS boys and girls beat competitors from West Point, Lancaster, Northampton, Essex and Rappahannock high schools.

The Lady Devils won handily, with a perfect team score of 15 points. They were followed by West Point at second with 52, and Essex third with 72. Northampton, Rappahannock, and Lancaster did not have enough runners to constitute a complete team score.

Leading the Lady Devils was Abbie Hudgins, who finished second overall with a time of 23:33. She was followed closely by Brittany Ottarson (23:36) and Connie Johnson (23:43). The next pack to finish for Mathews was Rileigh Betz (24:09). Right on her tail were Jaysen Hall (24:12), Avery Betz (24:14), and Skylar Lewis (25:03).
