MHS boys fall to Northumberland

The Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team will try to get back in the win column on Friday night when the Blue Devils travel to York High School to compete in the first game of the two-day York Christmas Tournament.

The MHS JV and varsity teams suffered losses to Northumberland last Thursday in the final games before Christmas break.

Varsity Devils

Northumberland came out strong from the opening tipoff on the way to a 73-46 victory last Thursday over the varsity Devils. The Indians quickly jumped on the Blue Devils, causing a string of turnovers that led to easy buckets. Although Mathews found themselves in a deep hole early, they continued to play hard.

As the game reached halftime, the Indians led by 23 points. However, Mathews was not willing to give up, and started a run of its own in the second half, fueled by halftime adjustments.
