MHS boys drop four hoop games

The Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team is still looking for its first win of the 2011-2012 season, following losses last week to Essex, Rappahannock, Tabb and Lancaster.

Last Wednesday and Thursday, the Devils traveled to the Northern Neck to face the Essex Trojans and Rappahannock Raiders. On Wednesday, the Devils couldn’t get a consistent offense going and the Trojans took advantage of that. Detray Washington worked hard on the boards earning rebounds that resulted in baskets; however, Mathews fell to Essex by a margin of 83-38.

Washington was the leading scorer for MHS with 10 points, while Deondre Foster added nine, followed by Cody Kelly with eight points. Ian Smith contributed six points and Joey Gordon and Dayshon Williamson each chipped in two points, while Deon Blake rounded out the scoring with one point from the foul line.
