MHS boys defeat Essex

The Mathews High School varsity boys’ basketball team picked right up where it left off last week, posting an impressive 56-27 victory over Essex in front of a home crowd Monday night.

The Blue Devils are on a win streak, most recently beating York and Denbigh to win the York Classic Holiday Tournament title. In Monday night’s game against Essex, senior Caleb Thomas scored his 1,000th career point.

The junior varsity Devils also beat Essex on Monday, winning by a 36-29 margin.

Last night, Mathews was scheduled to travel to Lancaster to face the Red Devils. On Friday, Mathews has another road game, this time against King and Queen. The Blue Devils will have their next home game on Monday against the Red Devils, with the JV game starting at 5:30 p.m.  ...
