MHS boys beat Chargers, fall to Falcons

 

The Mathews High School varsity basketball team picked up a win at home on Friday against Middlesex and lost by a two-point margin on the road to AA competitor York High School on Monday night.

In Friday night’s contest against Middlesex, the Devils and Chargers played evenly through the first half, with Mathews eventually coming out to dominate the second half on the way to a 57-40 win.

Stuart Anderson Jr. and Elijah Willis were the top scorers for Mathews with 21 and 20 points, respectively. Rounding out the scoring were Ethan Armistead (five points), Jarius Monroe (four), Christian Williams (three) and Jalen Matthews and Sawyer Hutson (two points apiece).

On Monday night, Mathews put up a good fight but couldn’t overcome York on its home court, with the Falcons winning 48-46.
